TGIF! Everyone ready for a 3 day weekend? I know I am. Just a few hours of work (6.5 actually) and then 3 days of FUN!!! First up this evening? Getting my hair shampoo and styled (I get one a month free where I have my hair done) and then dinner with hubby and friends. A great way to start a long weekend.
So, let’s start with the bad and then move on to the good!
I saw an Orthopadic Specialist Wednesday about my right calf issue. They did x-rays and ruled out any bone issues. After telling the doctor my story, he seems to think I have Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome. Essentially my fascia is not stretching and is cutting off the blood supply in my leg. I have an ultrasound and an MRI next week so that hopefully we can confirm this diagnosis. The good part of this is that we may have discovered what is causing my problem. The bad is that the answer is surgery. I have done endless reading about it since seeing the doctor and there does not seem to be any way around it. Sigh. I certainly was not prepared for surgery to be the answer. But, nothing set in stone yet, so we will wait and see. If anyone has ever dealt with this, will you please leave me a comment or send me an email!
Let’s move on to the good stuff. I asked the specialist if I could try a spinning class and he said he didn’t think it would be a problem at all. I LOVED SPINNING!!! Absolutely loved all 55 minutes of class. I was able to keep up my RPMs with the rest of the class. I did have trouble with the standing portions, but was able to work up to standing for 15 seconds at a time. The best part is that my calf never hurt. It was so fantastic to get through an entire workout without pain. I have already signed up for another spin class tomorrow.
I was very proud that I never had to stop spinning. I “rode” 18.5 miles during the class. I can definitely still say that I love the inventor of padded bike shorts. My hubby keeps telling me I am going to want some clip in shoes if I continue spinning. Clip ins are NOT a good idea for me outside, but I can see their advantages on a spin bike.
While the fitness facility I am going to is slightly out of my price range, there is really good news. I had a 10 class pass (that started Wednesday). Then, I won a contest on their facebook page and won a FREE month membership. That should get me through October. If I do have surgery, I suspect I will do it the beginning of November, so this would work out perfectly.
